Originally from the Netherlands, it is a medium-sized fluffy dog, striking for the color of its coat and its intelligent expression, with the tail hair curling behind it and the fluffy and dense chest hair forming lion-like sideburns. The Dutch Shorthair was early bred as a working dog and was often used as a guard dog on canal boats, hence the name Dutch Boat Dog. The dog looks so much like a Pomeranian that it was nicknamed the Fat Pomeranian by its humans.
The Dutch Shorthound is a medium-sized, square-looking, robust dog that is neither rough nor light. The ideal shoulder height for a mature male is 18 inches; for a mature female it is 17 inches, with a margin of error of no more than 1 inch. The correct size is very important and the body type should not exceed this range.
The expression relies heavily on a unique feature called "spectacles". Composed of markings and shading around the eye sockets, they must include subtle, dark lines that slope from the outer corners of the eyes to the lower corners of the ears and connect with rich eyebrows. The markings (or shading) on the face and head must show a beautiful appearance, giving him an alert and intelligent expression. Very serious defect: lack of dark lines that form the "glasses".
The eyes are dark brown in color, medium-sized, almond-shaped, slightly slanted, neither too wide nor too close together. The rims of the eyes are black. Defects: Round or protruding eyes, with light colored eyes.
The ears are small, triangular, resting higher on the head, and erect. The size is in proportion to the length of the head, roughly equal to the distance from the outer corner of the eye to the edge of the nearest ear. Defect: When he is concerned, the ears do not stand erect. The head is in perfect proportion to the body, and when observed from above, not only the muzzle but the whole head is wedge-shaped, but the whole head gives this impression when the ears are fallen backwards, against the neck and pressed with the hand. The outline of the head shows a clear stop. It is of medium length, neither rough nor pointed, and in perfect proportion to the head. The mouth is neither protruding from the upper jaw nor from the lower jaw. The lips are black, closely packed, not too thick, rough or drooping, and without wrinkles at the corners of the mouth. Defects: Protruding upper jaw, protruding lower jaw or crooked mouth. Teeth are white, healthy and strong, with a clipped bite and. Defective: Teeth are not aligned. The Dutch Shorthaired Poodle looks like the Pomeranian (details), although the Dutch Shorthaired Poodle is slightly larger and chubbier than the Pomeranian but not rough. The Dutch Razorback is neither timid nor aggressive. Rather, they are very outgoing and friendly to people and other dogs. The Dutch Razorback is an active, intelligent, alert and loving companion dog.
It has a cheerful temperament, is easy to get close to people, has a good memory, is observant of things, and is an excellent guard dog. Although large in size, it does not take up much space. The ancestors of the Dutch boat used to shrink their bodies into a circle in order not to take up more limited space. The Dutch Roodle is very loyal to its owner and brings a lot of fun to the breeder.
Never used as a hunting dog, the Dutch Mouflon has earned a high place in the sentiments of a nation with its charming character.
