The Tibetan Spaniel is a long-established breed that originated in Tibet, China. However, the word "hound" is only its name, but they have never been involved in hunting, so they are not really known as such. For a long time, they were companion dogs living in monasteries. In Tibet, they are said to be "prayer dogs" used to pray for blessings, and they often follow the monks around the prayer chariot covered with parchment to give a sense of sanctity.
A breed similar to the Tibetan Spaniel appeared in South Korea in the 8th century A.D., but it is not known whether it came from Tibet or not. It is well-proportioned, with a medium length body, slightly longer than its height, and shoulders about 10 inches from the ground. The dog's head is small and in proportion to the body, and it often holds its head proudly, giving it a sense of dignity. The male Tibetan Spaniel gives the impression of being masculine, but not rugged. The eyes are dark brown, oval, bright and emotional, medium sized and widely spaced, with black circles. The ears are medium sized and pendulous, and adult dogs have a large amount of decorative hair on their ears. The nosepiece is black, the jaws are slightly protruding, and the teeth are neat.
The neck is slightly short but sturdy, the back, horizontal, the front feet and paws are small and neat, and the hindquarters are sturdy and appear straight when viewed from behind. The tail is positioned high and has a large amount of feathery trimmed hairs, which curl cheerfully behind when in motion. He has a double coat that lies naturally flat on his body, with a smooth coat on the face and front part of the legs, and the underfoot hair should be trimmed off. Color is not fixed for this dog, and various combinations of colors are possible. When walking, they move quickly and in a straight line, with a spacious gait, full of joy and confident emotions.
