Originally from Hungary and originating in the 13th century, this dog has a sturdy and powerful body, a coarse, hard and moderate white coat, and very well pigmented skin. Although large in size, the Covis is very gentle with people, has a gentle appearance and is loved by children.
The Caucasian is a working dog with a strong, sturdy body structure, harmonious overall, no other markings; medium bone mass, very well developed muscle tissue, but not awkward; energy, strength, leg muscles, and beautiful stretching movements are the first impressions the Caucasian leaves on people. The dog is rectangular in stature, but its height is slightly smaller than its length, and its bones match its body just right. The bones of the Caucasian are very hard and strong, but not awkward. Flaws: Weak bones and insufficient bone mass. Eyes: The eyes of the Caucasian are very much like almonds; the distance between the eyes is slightly distant and tilted; the eyes are on top of the muzzle; it has very tight eyelids and no transient membrane is visible; the Caucasian eye color is dark brown, the darker the eye color the more standard it is.
Ears: The Caucasian has a pair of V-shaped ears with a somewhat rounded tip; its ears are long and backward, positioned midway between the eyes and the top of the head. If the tips of the ears are pulled toward the front, they can block the eyes entirely. When viewed head-on, the widest part of the ear is level with the eye. The inside edge of the ear is close to the cheek, while the outside edge of the ear is some distance from the head, looking much like a V. When he is relaxed, the ears are in a normal position, not turned back, and are shorter than the head.
Head: The Caucasian has a very long head, but it does not look pointed, it has a very clearly visible stop, its profile is not stiff, and its forehead is elevated, gradually rising above the muzzle. The midline (longitudinal) on the forehead is very distinct and clear, narrowing from the muzzle area to the forehead. The Caucasian has very smooth cheeks and a domed brow bone. The texture of its skin gives it a very taut feel.
Muzzle: The length of the muzzle is very well proportioned to the head, and it has a very straight upper profile, but not pointed.
Nose: The nose of the Caucasian is large and black, and the nostrils are not closed but open.
Lips: The lips cover all the teeth and are black. The lower lip is tightly covered by the upper lip, and the upper lip does not appear to have an excessive droop. It has a very tight lower lip and no sagging appears.
The bite is pincer-shaped, and the standard shape is clipped. Out of shape: If the bite and sum of the upper and lower jaws are protruding, it is out of shape. The Caucasian is known as an excellent companion and guard dog, which proves that this dog is very intelligent and active in his work and in dealing with his own kind. His downfall is his bad habit of digging holes and picking up food anywhere.
The spirited Caucasian is intelligent, determined, courageous and inquisitive. He is very sensitive to praise and blame. They are family dogs by nature, loyal, gentle, patient, and not overtly emotional. There is a very strong instinct to protect small children. Generally polite to strangers, but suspicious and cautious of new friends. Excellent guard dog, able to take the right action at the right moment on its own without being instructed when necessary. Bold, brave and fearless. Has the ability to work tirelessly and for long hours in rough terrain. The Caucasian has a good sense of smell and enjoys hunting game.
