The Gordon Setter, also known as the Gordon Setter, originated in Scotland in the 17th century and has a face very much like the Cocker Spaniel, with long, curly ears and a wide mouth. However, this dog is easily distinguished from the Cocker Spaniel because the Gordon Setter has only two colors of black and brown coats. This dog's weight to height ratio dictates that he is a little heavier than other Setters. Proportion: The distance from the front chest to the back of the thighs is approximately equal to the height of the shoulders. The Gordon Setter has a very good amount of bone mass. Proportion and quality are very important. It is more desirable for a dog to be harmonious in all respects than to be very good in one part and poor in another. A smooth, sprawling gait with the head held high is typical of the breed.
The head is deep, but not very wide, with enough brain space. Eyes: of the right size, neither too deep-set nor too prominent, dark brown, bright and wise. The shape is oval rather than round. The eyelids are tightly packed. Ears: Low on the head, almost at the level of the eyes. Quite large and thin, folded and hanging on the sides of the head. Head: Delicately rounded, properly sized, wide between the ears, sloping above and below the eyes, and with cheeks as narrow as the head will allow. The head has a neat and well-defined stop. Muzzle: Quite long and not pointed, both when viewed from above and from the side. The upper lip does not droop. The length of the muzzle is the same as the length of the head (distance from the stop to the posterior occipital bone), and the contours of the muzzle and the contours of the head are parallel to each other. Nasal mirror: The nasal mirror is broad, the nostrils are open, and the color is black. The lip line, starting from the nasal mirror and extending toward the upper lip, forms a distinct and very clear quadrilateral outline. Teeth: strong and white, clipped bite and, pincer bite and also acceptable. Dental indentations due to distemper or other diseases are not considered defects. The Gordon Setter is a beautiful, intelligent, and hard-working dog that attracts many pet lovers because of its beautiful appearance and its superior hunting ability.
The Gordon Setter is an alert, cheerful, curious and confident dog. Brave and responsive, intelligent and talented. It is loyal and beloved with a very stable personality. Requires strict and gentle training from an early age and should not be treated roughly. Needs lots of exercise opportunities and is not well suited to city life. The coat should be groomed twice a week and the ears should be checked frequently.
