The Spaniel, also known as the English Spaniel, is a very athletic dog breed. Many of today's land hounds have Spaniels as their ancestors. In the early 1800s, Spaniels and Cocker Spaniels were often born in the same kennel, and the only factor that distinguished them was their size.
When the American Hound Club was formed, its job was to classify dogs by size, and anything over 12.70 kg was classified as a Springer Spaniel. Although the Spaniel was used for hunting in the United States early on, the dog was not well known until 1924 when the English Spaniel Field Hunt Test Association was formed.
After the English Kennel Club recognized the English Springer Spaniel as a separate breed in 1902, the dog became better known and loved by more people. As a naturally athletic dog, the Spaniel has a strong body and powerful limbs, making it a rare and athletic dog. Their height is generally 46-48cm and their weight is around 16-20kg. Although the size is not very big, their ability is really unquestionable. From the side, the dog's head is about as long as its neck, and its eyes are medium-sized and oval-shaped. The ears are long and wide with a thin auricle and the root of the ear is flush with the eye.
The nasal bones are straight and the nose is liver or black, depending on the color of the coat. The nostrils are wide and dilated to appear strong. The teeth are hard and neat, with a clipped bite.
The neck is moderately long and strong; the trunk is strong and compact; the back is straight, robust and horizontal; the rump is rounded and smoothly joined to the hind legs. The front legs are straight, meeting the feet at right angles, with strong bones and round or slightly oval feet, thickly padded, with decorative hair between the toes. The thighs are wide and strong, and the knee joints are strong.
The coat has two layers for the outer layer of hair and the lower layer of down, the coat is neat, shiny and divided into black or liver with white or white with black markings, blue or liver flower hair or black, white or liver tri-colored.
Long-term exercise gives him a powerful and smooth footing, a strong rear drive, and an overall feeling of explosiveness, making him a very athletic breed. The English Springer Spaniel has an enthusiastic yet smooth temperament, loves to exercise and is good at it, and is a thoroughly athletic dog. They are enthusiastic and loyal to their owners. They are submissive and have no negative emotions, both in their daily lives and when trained by their owners.
As athletes, their love of sports is self-evident, and they love to run in wide open spaces. Of course, at home they are still very obedient, will not be mischievous, for the owner's orders they are quite obedient.
Their docile character is one of the reasons why people like them. When they are hunting dogs, hunters are quite cooperative in the hunting process and hunters can control them very well.
