Also known as the Canaan Dog, originally from the Middle East, the Canaan Dog is an ancient breed of dog that is curious but not intrusive and was used early on as a guide dog. Today, Canaanens can be used for herding, vigilance, tracking and rescue. Although they are rather aloof, they can also make great companion animals. In their native country, Canaangs are becoming increasingly popular and are now found in every corner of the United States. The head is long, its length should exceed its width and thickness, and is wedge-shaped when viewed from above. It is slightly bowed when viewed from one side, and gradually changes phase from the concave angle between the forehead and nose. The forehead is moderately broad, but due to the low ear point, it appears wider and has an alert expression. There is a groove between the eyes. The expression is alert, spirited and curious, with a very dignified temperament. Eyes - Dark, almond-shaped, slightly slanted, reddish-brown spotted, with varying degrees of fawn hue to the eyes, dark pigmentation around the edges of the eyes, or varying degrees of reddish-brown hue in harmony with the color of the coat. Defects - No pigmentation at the edge of the eye nitrile. Ears - erect.
Medium sized, with low ear position, tapering from a broad base and slightly rounded at the tips. When excited both ears are slightly tilted forward and a straight line from the inner corner of the ear to the tip of the nose should just touch the outer corner of the eye, the movement of the ears is determined by the dog's expression and mood. The interfrontal nasal concave angle - slightly pronounced. The muzzle - tapers from a wedge-shaped head to a length equal to or slightly longer than the cranial length from the back of the head to the interfrontal recess. The beard may or may not be clipped. Nose - dark pigmentation or varying degrees of reddish-brown hue should be harmonized with the coat color. Lips - Tense and fully pigmented. Bite - clipped bite.
Double coat, outer coat is straight and stiff, spreading slightly with neck hair, more in males, length of outer coat is 1.3 to 3.8 cm. The hair on the neck, back and thighs is slightly longer, and the coat on the body, legs and head is slightly shorter. The lower down has been soft, short, flat, thick and dense, changing with the weather, with more tail hairs, gradually increasing from the tail root to the end of the tail vertebrae, gradually becoming thinner toward the tail tip outside the tail. Disadvantage - the overly long coat even covers the body contour, any trimming will change the natural shape of the dog.
There are two types of coat colors white predominantly with masking, with or without color spots (large body spots are preferred), solid colors with or without white hair, colors can range from black to different shades of brown, such as sandy earth to red or reddish brown. Shades of black are often seen on solid brown or tan dogs, and spotting on solid coats can occur on the chest, belly, lower parts of the feet and legs, and tail tips. Disqualifying conditions - gray or/and mottled; pure white. The main reason why the Canaan Dog is said to be an excellent working dog is because this dog has a strong sense of territory, has a coaxing and persistent pronunciation, and is easy to train. Conversely, the disadvantage of this dog is shyness or attempts to dominate humans.
Medium-sized, square proportions, without any extremes, the contour lines appear clear and neat. He is agile and graceful, with a lively, rapid and large stride at the trot. He has a wedge-shaped head with low standing ears; a densely furred tail that curls behind when excited; and a straight, coarse, hard, double coat that lies flat against the body.
Alert, loyal to owner, docile, distant and aloof from strangers, can be a responsive companion and natural caretaker dog Committed and docile to family members. This dog is very barky and stubborn.
